To commemorate Confederate Flag Day, the Michigan Camps of the SCV [Admiral Raphael Semmes Camp #1321 of Dearborn, MI & Major General Patrick Ronayne Cleburne Camp #2257 of Grand Rapids, MI] will be gathering at the Michigan Military History Museum in Grass Lake, MI, where we will be presenting a special program talking about the history of the Confederate flags that our Southern ancestors fought under, the duty Confederate descendants have to display them & why they should remain visible in our world today. For a special treat, the room that we will be meeting in has an AUTHENTIC Confederate cannon on display!

Following the proceedings at the museum, all who are willing and able will drive one half-mile to Oakwood (East) Cemetery, where we will hold a brief memorial service at the gravesite of Pvt. George Daft (31st VA Infantry, CSA). We hope that all who are able will mark their calendars & plan on attending.

The Michigan Military Heritage Museum is funded primarily by voluntary donations; there is no charge to enter the museum or attend the event. The time given is the time that we will begin opening ceremonies at the museum, so plan to arrive a little early. Water & pop can be purchased on site ($1.00 per bottle or $0.50 per can). Some seating will be made available at the museum; RSVP is not required to attend, but if you could let us know whether or not you plan to attend it would help us to know how many seats to make available.

In the spirit of Flag Day, if you have a Confederate Flag (1st-2nd-3rd National, Battle Flag, Regimental/Brigade/Division, etc.) we would love for you to bring it to the museum & also to wave it with pride at the gravesite of Pvt. Daft. If you do not have a flag to bring, we do encourage you to order one from the SCV Online Store, but bringing a flag is not required to attend.

To RSVP, or if you have any questions about the event, please contact us at scv1321@gmail.com.
